Akten® 3.5% (Lidocaine HCI Opthalmic Gel) is the first ophthalmic gel anesthetic that has been approved by the FDA. It is preservative free, and it has a 20 - 60 second onset of action and a 5 - 30 minute duration. The viscous gel formulation allows for extended localized contact.
